New Jersey Children’s Alliance is a statewide non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote hope, healing, and justice for child abuse victims by supporting Child Advocacy Centers throughout the state with training, resources, advocacy, and leadership.  We aid communities in providing a coordinated investigation and comprehensive response to victims of criminal child abuse by providing support, training, and technical assistance to Child Advocacy Centers and multidisciplinary teams in all NJ 21 counties.

Child Advocacy Centers offer a child-focused way of serving abused children through a comprehensive approach to services for victims and their families.  Child Advocacy Centers stress coordination of investigation and intervention services by bringing together professionals and agencies as a multidisciplinary team to create a child-focused approach to child abuse cases. An important goal is to ensure that children are not re-victimized by the very system designed to protect them.

New Jersey Children’s Alliance is the New Jersey Chapter of the National Children’s Alliance (NCA). NCA is a membership organization providing support, training, and technical assistance to Children’s Advocacy Centers, multidisciplinary teams, and professionals across the country.

B. Marlene Colabella Scholarship Recipients Announced

The Hopatcong Woman’s Club has awarded two $1,500 scholarships in memory of B. Marlene Colabella, a beloved member of our club. Both are high school students living in Hopatcong. Our scholarship winners are amazing.

Brenna Loven has taken challenging classes and is 4 out of a class of 108 students. She has been also active in extracurricular activities. Brenna has been color guard in the marching band for 4 years as well as playing varsity tennis, competitive dance, academic team, and literary magazine. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. Brenna plans to study Chemistry/Pharmacologist and career goal is to be Pharmacologist. She wants a career that empowers her to make a significant difference in other people’s lives. She will be attending University of Pittsburgh.

Katya Daly has earned high honor grades. Katya is 9 out of 108 students. She has been quite active in the music program for 6 years. Katya has been in the marching band, jazz band and various other music groups at Hopatcong High School. Also, she is in the National Honor Society and on the Academic Team. She had a job as a lifeguard and taught swimming. Kayta’s plan is to major in criminology at the University of Maryland, one of the top criminology programs in the United States. Her goal is to be a police detective.

Both students joined us at Cinders Wood Fire Grill of Mine Hill on May 15, 2024, for our end-of-season luncheon. Parents Heather Loven accompanied Brenna and Drew Daly accompanied his daughter Katya. It was lovely to meet these girls and hear from them how much our scholarship help means to them.

For information on our search for 2025 scholarship winners, please contact any of our members or join us at a meeting. A big thank you to Linda Kalata, HWC member, for her efforts in soliciting, screening and choosing our deserving recipients.

Our annual fashion show was held for a second year at Casa Bianca of Oak Ridge, NJ. Melania’s Fashions of Randolph provided the spring collection. Door prizes and silent auction baskets, plus a 50/50 raffle all contributed to the successful fundraising efforts for the year. With these funds a variety of local community and not-for-profit organizations are helped, as well as Hopatcong youth, who are awarded scholarships and opportunities they would otherwise not enjoy.

Thank you to all of the Hopatcong Woman’s Club volunteers, our members, their friends and families and the community at large, for supporting us each spring at this event. Thank you also to our models for strutting the runway, and to Casa Bianca for their hospitality and service.
